Django Tutorial - Working with the ORM

HUGE (3rd floor) (map)

Selected By: Sean O'Connor

Sean O'Connor will be running a tutorial on how to use the Django ORM. The tutorial will start off with basic use and concepts but by the end will dive into more advanced concepts such as creating complex queries, custom managers, dealing with raw SQL.

Please be aware that all attendees will need to bring their own laptop to participate in the tutorial.

Thanks to HUGE for generously hosting this event.

UPDATE: The topic of the tutorial has been refocused on more introductory topics. Feel free to come and talk about more advanced topics tho.

UPDATE: Tonight's tutorial is now available at http://tutorials.djan...

UPDATE: Rescheduled to Monday (3/1) due to weather

It was my first contact with Django (apart from reading the "Definitive guide" Book). I have been programming in Python for years, doing web applications, and I think I could benefit greatly from knowing more of Django. The tutorial was very clear. Sean helped solve the problems for setting up. Next time I think I would prefer trying to set up beforehand, and start to use the material during the workshop. This time after I set up I just started to get acquainted with the actual database material and I had to leave. At least I can continue to do it now.

Guys, thanks for the tutorial. You are providing a good service to the developer community. I'm looking forward to the pro ORM tutorial as well.

Actually, it was my first (I was a virgin) DJANGO meetup of any kind, so I cannot compare it to another. Nevertheless, I found the organizers, Sean O'Connor & Justin Lilly, to be very knowledgeable, professional, and accommodating. Although I was unable to review the online tutorial because my notebook had technical issues, I garnered more valuable information in picking Sean and Justin's brain(s). It seems most of the other attendees were also quite driven and willing to share knowledge.

Helpful individual attention, but some tutorial sessions should be more didactic and guide the group through a step by step process. This is designed for intermediate programmers and not beginners.
