How Chartbeat Uses Django
Come hear Chartbeat's CTO, Allan Beaufour, speak about how his company uses Django to power chartbeat.com.
Event Overview
Allan will present how Chartbeat uses Django to power chartbeat.com and run through specific modules/tricks in use. He will also do a general description of the Chartbeat infrastructure and talk about how Puppet is used to maintain, not just the web servers, but the general infrastructure.
This talk will be the third talk of the Yipit Django Speaker Series. The Django Speaker Series is an ongoing series of talks organized and sponsored by Yipit that runs in parallel to our usual monthly meetings.
About the Host: Yipit
Yipit runs a large Amazon Web Services infrastructure using the latest technology including: MongoDB, Nginx, jQuery, Gunicorn and of course Django. We are strong believers in continuous integration and rapid deployment (at least daily) and are constantly looking to improve the way we design, develop, deploy and maintain our platform. That is why we created the Yipit Django Speaker Series.

Danish MunirNot as good as some past Django meetups I've been to. The good: Great venue. Yipit's offices are large, bright, had plenty of seating and a convenient location Generous food and drinks Large crowd. Good for networking. (applies to all of these meetups) The bad: The talk spent maybe 5-10 minutes in total on things even remotely related to Django. There was little talk about using different aspects of Django. Most of the time was focused on scaling and infrastructure
, which while important, weren't even addressed in a Django-specific way. This talk could have been a decent talk for any other meetup
The ugly:
One very loudspoken gentleman, who perhaps really enjoyed hearing his own voice, spent 20 minutes right at the beginning questioning the speaker on the product features of ChartBeat, and how they might be used by customers. While this would make for great hallway conversation, it was completely irrelevant to the talk. Thankfully, he was called out for it eventually
